Over the years, the go-kart has gone through many changes
Many of the world’s greatest inventions started out tucked away in the garage of someone with a dream and a few spare parts. With a little elbow grease and ingenuity, some of these creations went on to change the world forever. This is also how the story of karting begins.
Art Ingels had already made a name for himself in the racing industry. In fact, during the 1950s, he was a huge contributor to the Indy racing outlet and was well-known for building Indy race cars. It was this love that brought him to begin piecing the first go-kart out of scrap metal in his garage. After he had finished building the go-kart, he tested it in the parking lot of the Rose Bowl.
His creation was an overnight success and was first officially manufactured by an American Company, Go Kart Manufacturing Company, in 1958. Naturally, the go-kart didn’t simply become popular in the United States. Its popularity spread well beyond those borders and currently has a great following in Europe as well.
Over the years, the go-kart has gone through many changes, specifically with the engine. What began as a modified chainsaw engine, developed into an engine that had been adapted from a motorcycle engine. Today, companies in Italy and around the world regularly produce engines that have been specifically designed for the go-kart.
There’s no denying the thrill that one receives from driving a go-kart. There is something about the freedom and the speed that makes it one of the best inventions of all times. And to think that it all began in a two car garage with scrap metal! To experience the fun that karting has for yourself; make sure that you contact us today.
