What is your fascination with racing and with karting?
I'm most fascinated with the rush you receive that first time you race in a Pole Position Raceway kart. It's not comparable to any kind of karting I've ever experienced, and is very unique to the industry. Our electric motors makes our karts accelerate much quicker than the typical gas powered go-kart, and the difference is really felt by the driver. When you take this exhilarating experience and fuse it with everyone's inherent desire to drive fast and compete, the combination is perfect!
What's it like knowing that you are the first to bring a world-class racing facility to the Manhattan area?
It excites me to know that I am bringing this extraordinarily fun activity to my community. While the sport has picked up in places like Europe and the West Coast of the U.S, it hasn't had that much exposure along the East Coast. I'm excited to be one of the first to bring this type of entertainment out here and look forward to the growth and expansion options in the near future.
What excites you the most about owning your own indoor karting center?
I am most excited to bring a new venue and attraction to the Tri-state area. Jersey City has never seen anything like this before, and the community's reception of Pole Position Raceway has been wonderful. I look forward to creating a center for racers from the Tri-State to come together, network, and simply compete! Especially during winter months when outdoor tracks are more difficult to utilize, I look forward to creating a new home for our local racers.
How has the franchise process been with Pole Position Raceway?
I could not ask for a better partner in this amazing venture. It's incredible to be on the other side and realize how much goes on behind the scenes. While customers see the big picture, there are so many little processes that must come together in order to make Pole Position Raceway what it is today. There are so many aspects from marketing, planning, logistics, training, that P2R has worked with me on, day and night, for the past year and a half. Pole Position Raceway Jersey City would truly not be what it is today if it wasn't for the P2R management team and their extraordinary commitment to our facility.
What was it like the first time you met NASCAR Champ Kurt Busch?
The first time I met Busch, I was touched by his commitment and enthusiasm for charity. He was organizing a fundraiser event at Pole Position Raceway in Las Vegas. He is a guy that really cares about giving back to the community, and is something that I took away from the trip. I plan on hosting many philanthropic events, like his, at the facility in Jersey City and plan to help in all ways that I can to emulate this style of community outreach and contribution.
I was also excited about his endorsement of our facility, and knowing that he is behind me in this venture is very exciting. Our facility is built "for racers, by racers," and his support is the epitome of our motto.
You have signed a contract to do five kart tracks under the Pole Position Raceway brand. What are your growth plans for the next few years?
My plan is to establish five locations in the next couple of years in locations such as Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Greenwich, and more. It will all depend on the success of the current Jersey City location, which I am sure we will attain. Creating multiple locations will enable us not only to promote the Pole Position Raceway name, but will also enable us to create initiatives such as a Tri-State karting league and/or competition.
What type of experience did you have training at Pole Position Raceway in Las Vegas?
Fun, fun and more fun! Training in Las Vegas was a blast! While we were strangers to the Vegas staff at first, they welcomed us with open-arms and included us into the Pole Position Raceway family immediately. Jason Williams, Brad Mark, Ken Faught and Kelly Wagner, were all so helpful in getting my team up to speed, despite the long hours and effort that was put in. I can't begin to explain the amount of knowledge I attained while training in Las Vegas, and am confident that all of the lessons I learned will prepare me for any challenges that will arise at my track in Jersey City.
What will be unique about your indoor kart track?
While the karting industry is booming in Europe and particularly on the West Coast of the U.S, this is a brand new form of entertainment for the Tri-state. We will be the first indoor, electric track in the area, and the closest karting track to Manhattan to ever exist. With our two tracks, we will be able to cater to both corporate and walk-in clients, simultaneously so that we will never have to close our doors to our customers. Furthermore, as Jersey City has started to invest millions in improving the city and social scene, we are looking forward to Pole Position Raceway becoming a hang-out spot for many locals looking to catch the next NASCAR race or Football game on our big screen televisions!
How do you think businesses in the greater Manhattan area will respond to the opening of your all-new track?
I think the greater Manhattan area is going to respond extremely well to this track. Our reception before our doors have even been opening is great, with people emailing us daily for event bookings and to tell us how excited they are. The contingent of Tri-state residents who have raced at Pole Position Raceway in Vegas are especially excited because they know how great the Pole Position Raceway experience is from personal experience. That being said, we expect to have a lot of both corporate and walk-in business from the greater Manhattan area, and have incorporated this into our decision to include two tracks, and be extremely accessible to Manhattan since we are only four miles away!
How has the process of opening an indoor kart track changed your life and that of your family?
The process of opening an indoor karting track with Pole Position Raceway has truly re-shaped my family's life. Each one of us has taken on an important role in the business and it has truly brought us closer as a family. Its been very exciting to witness the day-by-day progress since day one. I remember last year after pitching the idea to the family, they thought I was crazy. 20 plus years in the construction industry, and now I wanted to own a karting facility? People thought I was going mad. Now, seeing the whole process come together is exciting for everyone and we have all been rallying around the anticipation this really special product we are bringing to the New York/Jersey City area.
